Dana Hrušková comes from a Romani family and has a degree in economics as well as years of business experience. Since 2008, she has worked as a field social worker with the Roma community, first working in Hradec Králové, and from 2011 at the office of a Prague municipality. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the resulting wave of migration from Ukraine to the Czechia, she has served as a volunteer helping Roma refugees upon their arrival in Prague. While providing assistance for these refugees at Prague’s main train station and  convention center, she realised that the whole process should be documented and began to record her first interviews with refugees and aid providers. Her private activity later led to the development of the ROCIT project plan. 

Hrušková is fluent in two Romani dialects in addition to Czech and a passive knowledge of Ukrainian. She has comprehensive work experience with Roma clients; for example, she recently worked as a health promotion mediator for the State Health Institute and as a mentor for Roma community leaders under the Ministry of Labour and Social Health. Hrušková has made her mark as a Romani writer, writing fiction and poetry in both Romani and Czech. She has worked primarily with the publishing house KHER to publish several of her short stories, including the compilation O mule, and has also written stories in Romani for Sweden’s Radio Romano.
