Iveta Kokyová

Iveta Kokyová, who comes from Hořice v Podkrkonoší, is a bilingual literary author who writes both prose and poetry. She has published her work on Kher.cz, Romea.cz., Romano voďi, Babylon, and A2. She also collaborates with Sweden’s Radio Romano to present her original work of fairy tales for children, and she is currently a member of the PEN Club committee. Kokyová is fluent in two Romani dialects in addition to Czech and passive knowledge of Ukrainian, Russian, Polish, and Czech Sign Language.

She is currently a student in the master’s programme at the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, majoring in Romani Studies. Kokyová worked as a research assistant for EXPRO GAČR, a project in the field of Roma history at Charles University’s Faculty of Arts. She participated in the transcription of audio and video recordings for teaching and research purposes at the Seminar of Romani Studies, KSES FFUK, and currently creates video materials to aid in teaching the Romani language for the Seminar of Romani Studies.

Additionally, Kokyová is a long-time juror of the Romano Suno literary competition; coordinator of and lecturer for the Vaker Romanes project; and member of — and Romani-language translator for — the Giľora Association. Currently, she is a guarantor and coordinator of the project “Supporting the Social Inclusion of Roma through Community Development and Entrepreneurship.” She is also involved in the creation of an online Romani-Slovak and Slovak-Romani dictionary for the Dobrá víla Kesaj Foundation.
